Hunt for the Perfect Bridesmaid Dress

Ok ladies (and any men that would like to contribute), I am rallying up the troops to ask for advice!

This past weekend Mr. Milk was sweet enough to drive me all over Vancouver (and then some) so that I could check out bridesmaids dresses. He was such a sport I have to say. In a world full of women, he came along, waited patiently, helped me pick out options. and offered his opinion. It was definitely a productive weekend.

So I started out on a mad hunt for this dress by Alyce Designs:

It was one of the first bridesmaids dresses that I really liked. I can't believe how difficult it was to find! The only thing I could find was the color swatch for their chiffon dresses. But sadly, no dress. So then the lady helping me find something similar came up with these:

This dress was beautiful. It's one of those dresses that flatters most body types. I would even buy it as a regular dress to wear out!

I fell in love with the color combo of this Alfred Angelo dress! Unfortunately it wasn't very flattering. The ruching at the hips makes them look bigger than what they are. I liked the colors so much I tried the dress on a few times just to make sure.

So then we came home and I did some more research online. And I found this:

I think this is my favorite. It also comes in the colors I am interested in!

I am now putting it out there for my blogger pals to offer up any advice, suggestions, opinions? What do you all think? Which do you prefer?

I love your pics! I worked in the bridal industry for about 8 years, and what I loved was when the bride would find the designer that made the colour that she wanted, and then let each bridesmaid choose her own dress from that designer. It kept everyone a lot happier as the bride didnt have the pressure of choosing the dress, and each girl could pick a dress that she liked and a price that they were comfortable in.

I especially liked it when I was in a bridal party as I am plus size and I sure dont look good in what the skinny girls do!

Check out Lynn Lugo's website as she has several pics of bridal parties that did this and it looks awesome.

Good Luck!!

I like the lavender dress and the last one very much. I think either one would be perfect!

Thanks for stopping by for my SITS day! :D

Love your original idea, but sounds like hard to find. Also like # 2 and the last one. One thought...make sure it's not too similar in style to your dress. You want to look unique....

I do think it's hard to find a dress that's flattering on all body types, so like the idea of choosing a color and allowing bridesmaids to select a style that suits them.

And a thank you from all bridesmaids out there (past and present) for finding a dress that is attractive (i.e., no puffy sleeves or bows larger than a person's backside...).

From....guess who? -:)

PS- big compliments to Mr. Milk...he sure is a good guy...You realize...you are now going to owe him, big time!

I like all of the dresses. I really like the last one the best, it's very pretty but so is the lavender one. I went in to try on the BM dresses and then had to take the girls to try them on before I could decide! I really like your choices. I had a hard time with the length aspect, it's hard to find a dress that looks good on a short person and a tall person.

Wow! Adore the white and last pink one. Lovely. :)

It's kind a toss up between the lavender one and the last pink one. I think they're both adorable. If I absolutely HAD to choose though, I'd go with the pink one. I think it would be a little more figure friendly by not having such thin fabric. :) And the shape rocks.

I don't know that us ladies are helping you much as it seems like our opinions are all over the place. I personally am favoring the lavendar one, though I like the last one, too. But I think the last one would need a woman with a nice bosom to truly be flattering and since I am not so endowed in that area, it wouldn't suit me. Which is why I ultimately like the idea of picking a color and fabric and letting the ladies choose their own styles. Out of my 6 girls, 2 have different styles than the other 4 though they are all extremely similar and by the same designer and fabric. Can't wait to see what you choose. I do have to say that I fell in love with one dress and the ladies all hated it when they tried it on...said it was totally unflattering though the pics I had were gorgeous. So all of this may be for naught when you finally get one of those beauties on your ladies.

I really like the last one, and the fact that the dresses you are looking at are re-wearable. With these things, you just need to trust your gut, so if you like the last one the best, go for it!

I LOVE the lavender one too! And I like the last one. I'm not a big fan of strapless (no chest) but they are BOTH gorgeous!

The very last picture is amazing! I love the dress in color - I think the details get washed on in the white version, at least on my monitor. But love love love the pink!

Cute! I like the styles you chose! I like the last two best because it seems like the length is something that could be worn again to another event. Good luck finding your dresses :)
