Impromptu Hair Trial

So yesterday I had an appointment to get my hair cut. Mr. Milk has a family friend who is a mobile hair stylist and she has been cutting my hair for a couple of years now. She comes to your house with her bag that looks like a carry-on trolley full of sprays, scissors, curling irons, hair dryers and so on, sets up her plastic tarp on your floor, and away she goes! Its actually really convenient.

As I was waiting for her to arrive in the morning, I was thinking about my day and realized that I had a fitting for my dress in the afternoon. It occurred to me that it would be fun to have my hair styled to get a complete picture of my wedding outfit! So when Valentine (the stylist) came in, I asked her if she had time to do an updo. Now granted she won't be the one doing my hair on the actual day - although I do wish I could take her with me to Cyprus - but she was game and had the time and we went for it. She didn't have any of her "bride hairdo" tools so we ran down to the store and picked up some booby pins and she spent an extra hour styling my hair.  I stupidly forgot to take my camera with me to the alterations appointment so can't show you ladies the overall look, but I did get Mr. Milk to take some pictures of my hair when I got home.

This was a really quick, unplanned thing so not as neat and tidy as it could be. I'm not sure about the coil parts of the updo. I envisioned a bit of a softer look mostly consisting of loops so that it looks more flower like (if that makes sense). Here are some pics of inspiration:

(Not sure where this one is from)

So what do you ladies think? Like it or not so much? Any other recommendations?

Thanks for stopping by my blog! Yours is way too cute. I think your hair looks great! She did such a wonderful job. I also really like the thrid one down from Carrie Underwoods picture. I haven't even thought about my hair yet. I'm such a slacker haha I look forward to following your journey!

I like it! I can't believe she did that impromptu and only in 1 hour! But I'm with you on the coils. I really really like the Carrie Underwood picture. A little height on top would look awesome with what you've got going on.

Ahhh I love it! Your hair looks amazing! That exact hairdo is my wedding hair inspiration, and my cousin is actually using that picture for my hair for our engagement party this weekend!

Great minds think alike :)

Cute! I think Valentine did a pretty good job on your hair. That is the same style that my bridesmaids have been falling over. They all love it so much! Carrie Underwood always has nice hair. I have used many of her pictures as inspiration for my wedding day hair too.

I think it's beautiful! I wonder if the coils loosened up a bit as the day went on?

I like it a lot and actually think the coils look great! But if you softened it up a bit, that would look beautiful, too. It was so nice of the stylist to do it for you! From your inspiration pictures, the second one is my favorite.

Wow for an impromptu style, I think it looks great!
Of your inspiration pics, I love the second and third ones. Especially the third. I have a thing for flowers. :)

Ok so I am kind of head over heels in love with your hair... the swirls look like hair rosettes but not in a cheesy way... it's the LITERALLY prettiest up-do I've ever seen, ever.

I think it looks great! I would take these pictures to your wedding-day stylist and tell her that you want it like this, but a little softer. She should be able to nail it!

I love it. It would look awesome loose in the front and then elaborate like that in the back. So pretty!

I want your hair. Color and thickness. Alas, I am not Mediterranean in the least. And I agree that, while I love the effect, somewhat looser coils on the big day will be perfect.

Beautiful idea. It looks very stylish. Is there anyway to make the spirals thicker?

buhdoop said...

Thicker wasn't the right word, softer is what I am visualizing :)

Wow that's beautiful! If I was going to have my hair up that would be the style I would go for. It's so pretty and intricate without being over the top.

Anyway - LOVE it!!

I really like it. I think maybe if you move the curls down your head just a little it would look more like that first photo. So cool that you got to try the dress on with the hair!

I actually like the messy touseled (sp?) look. It looks beautiful! I am hoping my hair is long enough for a half up-do by the time our day comes. Should be fine. To me, the hair is more important than the dress :)

I love it. I get the vibe your going for, I can tell it's going to look great.

Are you doing a veil/tiara or a comb.

It looks fantastic! I wish there was a DIY instruction book for a hairstyle like that! I'm still trying to figure what I'm gonna do with my hair...most likely leave it down bc I have no idea how to put it up!
