News From the Chocolate Milk House

I have beef with the airlines. Can someone please explain to me why airlines think it is logical to only allow you one bag for transatlantic flights?! Don't we pay enough for tickets as it is? We will have a minimum of 5 suitcases by the looks of things! I'm looking around and kicking myself for not shipping more stuff! There is a box that is just wedding invitations! I was nervous shipping them in the container, but now we are looking at shipping them by TNT or UPS or something. Dumb cause now we need to spend more money doing this, when it wouldn't have cost all that much to add to our initial shipment. Oh well. We are learning the hard way.

We still have a bunch of stuff to sell, namely the bed and the kitchen table. These are the last 2 large items left and then we can rest a little easier. We have a ton of photo frames, plants, a couple of phones, fans, and so on, but these things can be given away for free or donated. We've decided to donate our towels, quilts, and bed sheets to the RSPCA. I'm sure they can use all those things for the animals. I also found a charity that will give household items to families in need, so we'll be giving them all our kitchen items, cups, plates, cutlery, pots and so on.

Luckily Monday is a public holiday here in Canada (Victoria Day) so Mr. Milk will be home, giving us 3 days to get a lot done. I've found that its hard to pack his stuff. I'm not sure what he will need cause he is still working and needs work clothes, he has a ton of shoes, some of which he may be donating, or what he wants to wear on the plane. It was so much easier when I was moving from San Fran and it was just my stuff.

So I've decided that today I will watch trashy tv, read your lovely blogs, go to the gym, do mindless chores, and take on the bigger stuff come Saturday. Also, I picked up my dress yesterday afternoon! Initially I was kind of blah when I went into the store to get it, but when I saw it all steamed and looking lovely it put a smile on my face.  I will (hopefully) take some pics of it to show you gals.

Hope you all have super weekends!

I hate all the restrictions airlines put on luggage these days. It's great that you're donating so much that you don't plan on bring with you!

Ugh, airlines are the worst! I would have been scared to ship my invitations too, but you are in good hands. Just remember to get a tracking number!

Have a lovely day filled with doing the things that you want to do!

Good luck with everything and enjoy your day off! You deserve a break in the midst of this stressful move.

You definitely deserve a day to relax and not have to worry about any of this stuff! You have plenty of time to get things done this weekend. :)

I cannot believe the one bag policy also goes for transatlantic flights! That is BS. Is that for every airline?

I'm mad FOR you!

Airlines are an industry that need to be checked. They are out of control. You follow my SIL's blog, send her a message and ask about her luggage coming out for our wedding last month.

Can't wait to see your dress!

That’s terrible about the airline! I thought they at least allowed two bags each, and only allowing one is ridiculous! But I’m glad seeing your dress lifted your spirits, and that you’re taking a day to recharge! Just curious -- are you shipping your dress or carrying it on the plane?

Airlines make me so mad. It's so annoying all the restrictions that are placed on travelers now. I kinda understand but it's still annoying. Oh well, just enjoy a little rest, you deserve it.

airlines are a pain. a friend of mine flies all the time so i usually hear all the little horror stories that she tells me. its gotten to a point that many people dont even want to fly anymore but they have to even if it is unpleasant.

UGH!! Don't get me started! Mr Fix It was all fanatical about our packing job for the honeymoon. I find it ridiculous that they not only let you only take one bag, but then they put a weight restriction on it, too! We were totally trying to re-distribute things to make sure nothing went over. Top that with having to throw in his surfboard bag with our luggage! At one airline, he conveniently tilted the bag up onto the edge of the scale so it wasn't resting it's full weight on the scale. The attendant didn't notice :) And he's said he's had ot pay up to $600 to ship his boards before, but thankfully on the honeymoon, we didn't have to pay one dime for overages or extra bags! YEA! Sorry you are having to deal with this now...such a bummer. Stupid airlines!

that is such a huge move...I'm kinda glad andy and I decided to just sell everything and only take what could fit in a backpack...I'll regret it when we get back and have nothing though.

Good luck packing!

I know, I ended up throwing away stuff at the airport when flying from London (they did let me slide with 20 kg over because they must have felt sorry for me). I can't believe Asia is the only continent where you can check 2 bags.

Have a RELAXING weekend dear!

Good luck with everything! Packing is quite possibly the worst thing...in the end, (given that the end is your wedding) it will all be worthwhile :)

Happy SITS Saturday!

Man I have SO much stuff, I don't think I could ever move out of the country - I'd have 500 suit cases!

That's so nice that you are donating stuff to the RSPCA - they are a great charity.

SO EXCITED to see dress pictures! Yay!

Airlines cause lots of stress now a days. I hate dealing with them. Don't forget to always take some relaxation time for yourself. De-stress time is important.

Yikes, airlines sure can be the worst. Best of luck on the packing! I think shipping the invites will work out just fine, just make sure to get that tracking number! Thanks for stopping by to share my SITS day today, I really appreciate it!

Yay you got your dress, cant wait to see!

Airlines are so silly; up to not long ago they did allow you to have 2 each {or they did when we went to the states last year} but they have stopped that now! {so not much shopping this year in Florida!}

Could you pay for extra cases?

Oh thanks again for the blog award, i finally got round to posting it along with 7 facts about the wedding you guys didnt know.
